The city was founded in 315 BC, and was named after the sister of Alexander the Great! With such an identity card, Thessaloniki can truly be considered one of the cradles of antiquity, and a living monument of the past of this time.

Geographically, it is in a very favorable position as a central point on the roads between the West and the East. In its rich history, Thessaloniki was therefore the target of various invaders. Goths, Avars, Slavs, Saracens, Franks, Byzantium, Ottomans, and at the end of both world wars 1914-1918. and 1939-1945.

All those historical turbulences left their traces and consequences. These stamps of the past, together with the natural beauty of Thessaloniki, offer us a picture of a powerful Hellenistic city, enriched with elements of ancient Rome, Byzantine and Turkish rule. It is impossible to visit the city and not feel that unique spirit – the intertwined history of East and West through images, smells and tastes.

Throughout the year, Thessaloniki is ready for tourists and for everyone who longs for a vacation, cultural and historical reading or a perfect time with shopping and delicious food and drinks, but what is important is that Thessaloniki offers something for everyone.

As soon as you get off the bus, you will see the walls of the Acropolis, under the name Eptapyrgio which means Seven Towers. Eptapirgio was built in the 15th century to defend against Turkish attacks, but it is assumed that the first fortifications were built before the new era. Along the high walls are several large gates for the entrance to the old town. In the eastern part of the wall is the entrance that leads to the Trigonion tower from where the most beautiful view of the city can be seen. When the day is clear and without fog, you can clearly see Mount Olympus from the tower.

Walking through the streets, you will feel the tempting aromas of traditional and international cuisine coming from literally everywhere, and you can't help but notice attractive restaurants and cafes with beautiful gardens.

If you want to feel the soul of the city with a drink, it is best to go to one of the pleasant cafes on the street by the sea.

The White Tower is the symbol of the city of Thessaloniki, it is a Turkish monument from the 15th century. Although it was built to improve the city's fortress, it was later used as a prison and a place of torture and execution. Its original name was "Lion Tower", and in 1826, it was named "Bloody Tower". The White Tower got its current name after it was painted white at the end of the 19th century in order to "cleanse" it of all the terrible things that happened inside it. Today, it is no longer white and has been turned into a museum. From the terrace at the top, over 30 meters high, you can have a great view of the city, the harbor and the bay.

If you are more interested in the history, religion and museums of Thessaloniki, you can visit one of the Byzantine churches: St. Paul, St. Sophia, St. John the Baptist Baptistery, Panagia Chalkeon, St. Dimitrije, St. Nicholas Orphanos.

The central part of Thessaloniki is a square named after the most famous Greek philosopher and scientist - Aristotle. Since it is located in the very center of the city, it is where a lot of young people meet and stay. Cafes and mostly luxury hotels are located around it, and for theater lovers there is the Olympion Theater.

Ancient Agora or Roman Forum (two names for the same place). This important and fascinating archaeological site is located in the very center of the city, the former Roman core of the ancient city. It was first built at the end of the 2nd century AD, and was accidentally excavated only in the 1960s.

The Arch of Galerius is located next to the Rotunda, commonly known as the Kamara, and is a must-see in Thessaloniki. It was built after the victory of Emperor Galerius over the Persians in 303 BC. Kamara is a decorated arch built of reddish stone. It is located on Eginatia road in the city center. Today, the Galerius Arch is a major tourist attraction.

The promenade in Thessaloniki is decorated with a monument dedicated to Alexander the Great, who is considered one of the most important and influential figures in the history of Greece and during whose reign the city flourished.

The most popular tourist venture in Thessaloniki is a boat trip around Termaikos Bay. The boats are specially decorated and the crew are costumed, so a trip on a boat like this around the Termaikos Bay is a great experience.
