Remscheid is one of the largest cities in the Land of Berg and is one of the last industrial cities in North Rhine-Westphalia with many green and forest areas. The history of the city began with the Emperor Napoleon I. Through the industrial revolution, the city became a prosperous city, which, among other things, maintains trade relations throughout the world through the metal industry. Despite its industrial character, the city offers visitors numerous sights and attractions. The attractions include the old town of Lennep as well as the German Tool Museum or the German X-ray Museum.

Remscheid is part of the Rhine-Ruhr Metropolitan Region, one of the economically strongest industrialized regions in Europe with a long industrial history. Most of the historic buildings are located in Lennep, including the birthplace of the explorer of the X-rays, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen. He was born in Lennep am Gänsemarkt in 1845. About 100 meters away from the birthplace is the German X-ray museum in Schwelmerstraße. The museum possesses a world-wide collection of X-ray equipment.

The Cleff house in the Hasten district, built in the rococo style of the 18th century, is one of the most beautiful mansions in the Land of Berg. Another attraction is the highest railway bridge in Germany. The Müngsten Bridge was completed as a steel arch bridge in 1897 and crosses the Wupper along the route from Remscheid to Solingen. Remscheid is the largest holiday road in Germany. The Deutsche Alleenstraße leads from the Baltic Sea to Lake Constance. Remscheid has a large number of churches. One of the most famous church buildings is the Protestant Town Church, which was inaugurated as a Baroque Saalkirche in 1726.

Crossing the city one will find hiking and cycling trails in Remscheid. For example, you can easily explore the numerous sights in the city by bike. Around the city, the X-ray trail is a marked hiking trail. One of the leading cultural institutions in Remscheid is the City theater, the Teo-Otto-Theater in the city center. The theater is close to the Town Hall and is also the venue for the symphony orchestras of the cities of Solingen and Remscheid. The two municipal orchestras merged in the 1990s. The former Bahnstrasse Remscheid-Hasten was designed in 2006 as a route of the tool. On the cycling and hiking trail, markings and elements show the products of the Remscheider companies in the tool and metal processing industry.
