Petrovac – A peaceful bay on the Montenegrin coast

Other , 0 Comments Jul 05, 2023

The southern town, with fragrant pine forests and olive groves, crystal clear sea surface and pebble beaches, is a quiet bay on the Montenegrin coast. It is located between Budva and Bar and is inhabited by only 1,700 people. Although small, Petrovac is a recognizable toponym of Montenegrin tourism.

A bus ticket will take you to Petrovac from almost any direction. You can check the bus timetable, with regularly updated information on departure times and ticket prices, at our website. Keep in mind that a return bus ticket usually offers savings on purchases. In doing so, you choose an open - unspecified ticket, or a closed - specific date ticket.

Like most towns on the Montenegrin coast, Petrovac has a rich history. The ancient Romans left the oldest traces of settlement in the hills above the coast, in the 3rd century BC. The first written traces about the former Kastel Lastovo are mentioned in the Annals of the Priest Dukljanin in the 12th century. The coastal settlement, as Petrovac is today, was formed in the 18th century. The population has always been engaged in the production and export of olive oil and wine, which is stored in the fortress and the port of Castello. Today, this building serves as a historical monument that offers a wonderful view of the sunset.

Today's town of Petrovac offers a variety of activities that are worth trying during the summer season. They mainly relate to enjoying the charms of the sea - swimming, diving, sailing, tennis courts and other sports, instructors and guides are available. There are two main, spacious beaches, one not far from the other.

The main city beach is characterized by reddish pebbles. It is one of the most visited beaches of the Budva Riviera, although it is only 600 meters long. From the shore, you can enjoy the view of two islands, Katič and Sveta Nedjelja, which can be visited. Lučice Bay is located 800 meters away and is of special beauty - a pebble beach is bordered by a green forest. The water is transparent and clean. Both beaches have a landscaped coast, free access, a promenade with cafes, restaurants and souvenir shops.

Not far from the beaches, the Reževići Monastery is also well worth a visit. And you can get to it by walking along a well-maintained path, which follows rows of coniferous trees. The monastery was built in the 14th century and is known for its mosaics.
